The payment process is cumbersome and can only be made via wire transfer, adding even more expense to your purchase. The shipping quotes they provide are also outrageously expensive.

Very difficult to work with.

Had an expired state ID, would not accept payment. Provided proof of identity with bank statement, approved then informed not acceptable. Retracted my bid, then approved. Perplexed as to why there was issue since I've bid in auctions around the world and never asked for an ID.

They are descriptions and condition Reports are spot on.

Careful of their freight costs. They don't use DHL so the cost is outrageous. I won't do business with them again.

Repeat buyer is an indication of my opinion. This time my only hesitation in giving 5 stars is the condition of one lot is worse than I though based on statement of condition. Would still work with again.

For a well recognized auction house, their system is so geared towards expensive items that the hoops they make you jump through not worth the effort.

It was a learning experience that unfortunately will not do again.

This was my first time bidding with Bonham's UK; I took for granted that payment for a winning bid could be completed with a credit card and that shipping could be handled by the auction house. Not so, as a first time winning bid payment needed to be completed with an international wire transfer (huge hassle to complete); Bonham's will not handle shipping, they offered a short list of local third party shippers to send the item; the shippers would not send the small item by Royal Mail, but would only use FedEx; in all the shipping was about $220 for a $400 item (Royal mail shipping would have been about $60). Also the item was poorly described (they failed to mention dents in the item) Overall a poor experience; I don't know that I will use Bonham/Skinners in the US, but decidedly will never use Bonhams UK again.

Fragile antique items well packaged for interstate shipment. Description was accurate, allowing me to know what I was bidding on from just the listing.

No problems until after the sale. I have bid at Bonham's many times before but this time they needed new ID's and proof of me being me. It is a hassle and one I thought I would avoid because of my history with Live Auctioneers but that was not the case. And the prohibitive shipping fees from LA to Phoenix AZ were ludicrous. I have had things shipped from NY for less. Would recommend to anyone to get shipping bids before bidding so you are aware of the cost.
