白玉質，清透細膩，潤澤如凝脂，局部有金黃色沁，古雅 繽紛。圓雕神獸引頸昂首，張口露齒，朝天咆哮。頭頂雙 角後仰，濃眉圓眼，頦下有鬚。胸肌飽滿，四肢強健粗 壯，體兩側帶有層層羽翼，線條弧度優美。帶有羽翼的仙 人身穿短衣，昂首挺胸，雙臂向前緊抓住獸角，如騎士般 踞坐獸背駕馭神獸，神獸樣貌兇猛，羽人則表現出氣定神 閑的寧靜感。神獸羽人似在仙境中遨遊，表達漢代帝王追 求羽化登仙、長生不老的思想。本品或為傳承前朝，可從 美國弗利爾美術館庋藏漢〈玉羽人馭獸〉，羽人騎 乘神獸之英姿與本品相似，可資比對參考。

中國早於商代就有羽人文化實物，並曾出現於三星堆等地。 《山海經．海外南經》：「羽民國，在其東南。其為人長頭， 身生。」、《山海經．大荒南經》：「又有成山，甘水窮焉 ??有羽民之國，其民皆生毛羽。」尤其在秦漢道教興盛 後更為流行。漢樂府民歌《長歌行》：「仙人騎白鹿，發短 耳何長！導我上太華，攬芝獲赤幢。來到主人門，奉藥一 玉箱。主人服此藥，身體日康強。發白復還黑，延年壽命 長。」羽人形象的出現，說明漢代人幻想自己能像鳥一樣 展翅飛翔，升入仙境，以求長生不老。

在玉器中，羽人與有翼神獸表現出非凡想像的「飛天」神 力，或寄託人們辟邪鎮惡的願望，或與漢代封建統治階級 所幻想的「羽化升仙」宗教思想有關，在漢代文物中尤其 豐富。如美國弗利爾美術館庋藏漢〈玉羽人馭獸〉、 1966 年陜西省咸陽市新莊漢元帝渭陵西北漢代遺址出土， 陜西省咸陽市博物館庋藏西漢〈玉仙人奔馬〉， 主 題皆為典型仙人和長有羽翼之瑞獸，充分體現漢代人們期 望藉助神力飛往「天國」，從而永生不死的美好遐想。
