玉質呈黃白色，閃透青綠，晶瑩溫潤，局部白色鈣化。圓雕樂舞雜技俑，頭戴尖頂小帽，著緊身短衣，腰束帶，作三彎柔術表演。昂首伏身，雙足自身後向頭部彎曲，兩腳落於雙肩，用手握住足脛，頭足相聯，神態自若，體現漢代「百戲?倒挈面戲」相當高超程度的技巧。

百戲是漢代貴族宴飲前的樂舞表演，多是單一或成對出現。而玉舞人是漢玉典型藝術之一，然出土之作多為平板狀，圓雕作品屬較少見。實物列證可參見 1983 年廣東省廣州市象崗南越王趙眛墓出土，廣東省廣州市南越王墓博物館庋藏西漢〈青玉舞人〉，其圓雕技法及舞者專注神情與本品類似，應同為「百戲之一」。此類新奇樂舞節目，在漢代已被列於樂府，用於延攬胡人。

樂舞藝術起源於先秦，至漢代國力強大、經濟繁榮、中西文化交流頻繁等諸因素，促使百戲多元發展。《漢書．武帝本紀》西漢武帝元封三年（公元前 108 年）春；「作角觝戲，三百里內皆觀」、《漢書．西域傳》武帝元封六年（公元前 105 年）夏，「京師民觀角觝於上林平樂館」，招待來京師的「四夷」客人，作西域「巴俞、都盧、海中、碭極、漫衍、魚龍、角抵之戲」。當時各式技藝總稱角觝戲，漢武帝於元封三年和六年，曾集合各地奇技表演，招待前來京師的外國貴賓觀賞，以誇示國力之強盛。

至東漢始稱百戲，據東漢文學家張衡《西京賦》，對於西京百戲演出盛況有著極為精細的描寫，當中一段「臨迴望之廣場，程角觝之妙戲。烏獲扛鼎，都盧尋橦。衝狹燕濯，胸突銛鋒。跳丸劍之揮霍，走索上而相逢。」說明漢代百戲除廣納四方技藝內容，技術之成熟亦已臻化境，成為展示國力的表演活動，深受王公貴族喜愛。如 1969 年出土於濟南北郊無影山西漢墓出土，濟南市博物館庋藏西漢〈陶彩繪樂舞雜技俑〉，觀其造像可見樂舞俑之技巧動作已達出神入化，其中一俑在做倒挈面戲的表演，與本件樂舞人極為相似，可資參考。兩者皆將頭從身後彎曲置於兩足之間，用雙手握住足脛，將整個身體團成圓球，表現樂舞藝術在漢代已取得十分驚人的成就。然本件〈青白玉樂舞人〉，選材考究，融合圓雕、陰刻等工藝技法，通體線條柔和，刀法簡明生動，造型姿態充滿動感，反映出漢代對舞蹈娛樂之喜愛。
