Probably dating between the wars and decorated in the 1950s with the Mau Mau Uprising. 8 ½” spatulate blade with pronounced medial, precisely like the tip of a Maasai lion spear. Hide wrapped grip and hide-covered scabbard. Shoulder strap of five ranks of trade beads with a hide tongue matching the scabbard and grip. Good uniform aging with minor staining to the tool finished blade and deep patina to the hilt and scabbard with remnants of the red dye indicating its use in the Mau Mau Uprising. Most surviving Mau Mau examples were made in the ’50s while a few, like this one, were earlier and colored to identify them as Mau Mau.
