A rare Victorian novelty silver and enamel 'ammunition' ink pot James Dudley, London 1896 underside of base stamped J DUDLEY, SOUTHSEA Upright rectangular form modelled as a war department ammunition box, applied white enamel plaque on one side with red lettering 'GOVERNMENT EXPLOSIVE' around a war department arrow, hinged cover opening to reveal a silver mounted glass ink pot, set within a receiver with drilled holes, interior of cover with fine detail simulating the hinges, the front with swivel action lock catch and rope twist drop handles to either side, height 7.7cm, weight 6oz.
