Description
Attributed to Qiu Ying, Ming Painter (Chinese, 1494-1552). "Palace Courtyard", gouache and ink on paper laid down on three wood panels, signed and sealed. Monumental exquisitely painted scene depicting a series of palace buildings and courtyards set in a mountain landscape, with some losses to paper throughout. Approximate height 79", width 255" (6' 7" x 21' 3"). Provenance: From the Estate of Anne Eng, owner of Trader Eng's / House of Eng, Atlanta, GA.
Condition
Wear commensurate with age and use. Cracking and areas of loss - some large - to paper overall. Areas where paper is lifting from board, with areas of creasing and waving overall, in addition to areas of fading, staining, abrasions, seam separation between sheets, discoloration, and water damage. Some areas of possible repair. Edge with many nail holes from framing, with discoloration and loss where frame sat. Wood panels with losses to edges and some splintering. Would benefit from professional restoration.
