A 2020 Pachyderm solid body electric bass guitar, serial #0920010 in natural. Played on tour by Les Claypool of Primus. Made for and played by Jason Momoa, the film and television star who has appeared in projects such as Game of Thrones, Stargate Atlantis, Aquaman, Fast X, and Dune. Jason is also an avid player and collector of guitars and has amassed an impressive collection.

Notably, this bass can be seen in the hands of Les Claypool of Primus during the seventh episode of Momoa’s Max show On the Roam. The episode introduces us to Pachyderm, a partnership between Claypool and luthier Dan Maloney, who has been making basses for Primus frontman for many, many years. The partnership came about when Claypool had a vision for the perfect bass and could think of no other luthier so qualified to usher it into existence. Luthier Maegen Wells has recently joined the team, known for her incredible and inspiring hollowbody guitars.

This particular instrument was one of Claypool’s two touring Pachyderm basses and saw use during 2020 through at least 2022. It’s being auctioned off in support of St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which provides care for children with cancer as well as research into lifesaving treatments and cures.

Completed in September of 2020, the bass has been given the nick name “Momoa's Koa” by the luthiers for its exceptionally figured top made of wood found only in Hawaii. It is the 10th Pachyderm made, as confirmed by Maloney and Wells. A set 32” scale length three piece maple neck with koa veneers on the front and back of the headstock, which also wears a Pachyderm medallion and four black Sperzel locking bass tuners. The neck has a 29 fret ebony fretboard with no inlays and light-up side position markers with an intensity control in place of a tone knob. The body has the aforementioned koa top as well as a striking flame maple back with koa backstop and other accents.

The bass is equipped with a black Kahler tremolo bridge (the arm for which is missing), and for controls it has a momentary kill switch, a single volume, and the off-on-intensity control for the illuminated side markers. On the back is a battery compartment which houses two 9v batteries for the EMG pickup.

The bass comes with a gig bag.
