Item Details
Description
A waistcoat worn by Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young off stage during the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair.

The navy blue, wool waistcoat features a faint vertical stripe pattern, two front pockets, and a slate grey silk backing. No size or label present.

At the iconic three-day festival, Crosby Stills Nash and Young performed a set of sixteen songs on the last day -- August 18, 1969. The waistcoat comes directly from the private collection of Mac Holbert who started in the spring of 1971 as an assistant truck driver and gopher for the Crosby & Nash Tour. In 1973 he became Graham Nash's assistant and eventually tour manager. He also managed tours for Crosby, Stills Nash, Crosby, Stills, Nash And Young, Poco, America, Dwight Twilley, Peter, Paul And Mary, and Carole King, and did so through 1991. After he retired from the road, Holbert continued his business relationship with Graham Nash, as well as his friendship with this legendary trio of musicians.

Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Holbert, as well as an additional letter from Holbert that reads: "In the late '70s Graham was in the process of selling his house in San Francisco. He asked me to clear out his basement which was filled with the misc "junk". I came across a box of old clothes and I asked both Graham and his wife Susan what to do with it. Susan told me that there were a few items that she was saving because of their "historical" value. She indicated that the only piece she wanted to keep was the jeans that Graham wore onstage at Woodstock. The vest was in this collection. Graham and Susan both indicated that it had been worn at Woodstock (not onstage). It has remained in my collection since then. I affirm its authenticity and the veracity of my acquisition."
