Description
Latin America, Mexico, ca. mid-20th century CE. Wow! A unique and colorful handmade wooden festival mask of incredible form: an armadillo whose broad back is in the form of a human face with an open mouth and jutting tongue. The armadillo's head, long tail, and legs project from the sides of the mask. Bright pigment decorates its surface. A playful creation celebrating one of the more unique animals of the region. Size: 26" L x 10.5" W x 12.2" H (66 cm x 26.7 cm x 31 cm)

Condition
Old repair to tail with adhesive visible. Proper right ear and front paw have been reattached with break lines visible. Chipping to nose and some minor nicks and chips to wood, gesso, and pigment as well as a few stable fissures in areas. Otherwise, nice remaining pigment and light patina in areas. Suspension wire on verso for display.
