Vat at 15% is payable on the hammer price of this lot. A rare Augustabernard couture chocolate satin bias cut evening gown, 1932-33, woven grey on ivory satin label, no 37416, the shoulders and neck outlined with a vibrant green velvet rosette bow, V-shaped back, the columnar skirt with three broad gores to the hem and central kick-pleat, side fastened with prestuds, bust 86cm, 34in Augustabernard con-joined her names when she opened her fashion house in Paris in 1919. She was one of the leading couturier's in Paris between the first and second world wars. She was known for her deceptively simple and timeless clothes. She gradually became overwhelmed by financial problems and retired in 1934. Despite her importance to Paris fashion, gowns by her rarely come onto the market. Provenance: Princess Nilfur.
