[BARTON, Thomas.] The Conduct of The Paxton-Men, Impartially represented; The Distresses of the Frontiers, and the Complaints and Sufferings of the People fully stated; and the Methods recommended by the wisest Nations, in such Cases, seriously consider'd. With some Remarks upon the Narrative, Of the Indian-Massacre, lately published ... In a Letter from a Gentleman in one of the Back-Countries, to a Friend in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia: A. Steuart "and sold by John Creaig, Shopkeeper in Lancaster," 1764. 8vo (160 x 105 mm). Modern calf backed marbled paper boards. Condition: lacks the half-title, title page backed, terminal leaf in facsimile, other restoration to D2-D4 with very minor losses. Provenance: Jeremiah Parker (signature on title). This pamphlet defends the Paxton Boys (or at least mocks the non-violence of the Quakers and criticizes the government for agreeing to protect the Indians); not surprising considering the pamphlet was printed to be offered for sale in Lancaster. Only the Siebert copy has appeared at auction in the last quarter century. Evans 9594; Field 1187; Howes B219; Sabin 15209; Siebert Sale 171.Images
